Pentecost, as Pastor Russ points out in his message, comes from a Greek word meaning ‘fiftieth’… eh?! So what does that mean? And what does it mean when the people of newLife Church say of themselves, ‘we are Pentecostal’?

This morning we are pleased to welcome Dr. Glenn Balfour, principle of Mattersey Bible college and senior lecturer in the subject areas of biblical languages and New Testament, as he comes to futher our exploration.

Glenn takes a closer look at what Jesus has to say about asking in the context of prayer and what we should understand about the nature of God as we do pray. If we really understand that God is a loving Father – how should that affect how we approach him? And what can we learn from Jesus’ instructions to be persistent in prayer?

This morning Mark begins our third and final section of Jesus’ Masterclass by looking at what Jesus has to say on the issue of Judging.

This morning newLife celebrated with two people who chose to publicly declare that they love Jesus and have chosen to follow him as their Lord and saviour… they were baptised in water!

Baptism celebrations always make great services. You get to hear personal stories of how Jesus is changing peoples lives. With this in mind, Pastor Russ shares with us his thoughts on transformation.

In a society that prizes instant results it’s hard to accept, possibly even frustrating, to understand that the transformation of a person is a journey that can’t be achieved through an 8 week intensive ‘makeover’programme. The kind of transformation Jesus brings isn’t a quick fix. It’s the work of a loving God that will go on to produce eternally lasting results… now that’s worth taking seriously!

Jesus died and rose again from the dead. He died for the sins of human kind and by doing so he made it possible for people to know him personally and to enjoy God’s forgiveness. Christians know this and many people who don’t even believe in Jesus are still aware of the connection between Easter and Jesus’ death and resurrection. However the Easter story can pass over us in the same way that the Christmas story can pass over us – by becoming all too familiar.

Today is a good day to stop and ask… ‘So what does Jesus’ resurrection really mean to a Christian?’
